PRIVATE CORRESPONDENCE / P1.7
Your private identity opens encrypted conversations. It is different from the public contact file you give to other people, and creating it is separate from asking this relay’s administrator for access.
Create an identity in this browser. Lettres immediately downloads its only private backup file; store that file safely before requesting relay access.
Choose your private .identity.json backup. A public .contact.json cannot sign in. You can also paste the complete backup below.
The administrator cannot recover it. This browser stores a working copy, but the current app does not offer another private-key export later. The public contact and public QR are safe to share; the private identity file is not.
Development release: the private key is stored unencrypted in this browser’s IndexedDB. Use a dedicated profile and trusted device.

These controls work before an identity exists. The live check bypasses Lettres’ offline cache and reports what this server actually offers.
Checking release evidence…
Factory reset is destructive and requires confirmation. It removes only this browser’s Lettres identity, messages, drafts, outbox, settings, caches, and service worker—not relay data.

LOCAL IDENTITY ONLY
